#133: The Foundational Series Day 4 – Your Control Versus Your Teen's Control

133

This is Day 4 of an 8-part series to explain the foundational principles of parenting teens. These are the "basics" that you need to understand to parent your teenagers with less conflict and more connection (plus have more influence in their lives and even change their behavior).

Today I talk to you about understanding the changing dynamic between you and your teenager. Some of us fail to realize that as our kids get older, they have different parenting needs. And failure to realize those needs can lead to some major disconnection and conflict between you.

Supporting their autonomy, treating them with the respect you want to receive, making sure they feel safe to tell you anything, being emotionally flexible, learning to negotiate and hand over the reigns in many cases…none of this is easy but it is doable.

If you feel you’re struggling to get your teen “under control”, this is the episode for you.

Thank you so much for listening to the show! If you found it helpful in some way, please share it with someone who could also benefit from it. And if you prefer listening on a podcast app, please be sure and follow the show so new episodes will automatically pop up in your que.
