#75: Attachment Parenting With Teens; We’ve Gotten It Wrong For Generations (with Laurie A. Couture)

negative (2)

I’ve mentioned secure attachment in several previous episodes. We sometimes lump this very scientific concept under general terms like having a “good relationship” or “strong connection” with our kids and teens. This concept of secure attachment is the basis for these more general terms. It’s about first understanding and then meeting our kids', teens' and tweens' needs. If we don’t meet those needs, we see dysregulation,  anxiety, depression, mistrust, etc.

In today’s episode I talk to Laurie A. Couture, a licensed mental health counselor, child trauma specialist, child advocate and author. Laurie drives home the concept of secure attachment and how unmet needs and trauma (small and large) can lead to insecure attachment with your teen…and how you can repair it.
